The Bushmen of Namibia’s northeast Kalahari are one of Africa’s last true hunter-gatherer communities. But recent dispossession of traditional hunting grounds has lead to a move towards cattle farming, and a conflict with nature. The Bushmen, who for thousands of years had lived in harmony with the wild, have found themselves in competition with the area’s large carnivores.
“Bushmen – Hunting for their Future” is a film about the joint effort between the Bushmen and zoologist Flip Stander to find a solution to this conflict. It shows how, by using traditional knowledge of tracking and hunting as tools in modern science and conservation, the Bushmen can fight to survive as a people, and give the predators and prey of their land, a second chance.
